Summit empowers Hawaii youth to help shape climate action policies

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The Hawaii Climate Future Forum and Youth Summit is underway at the State Capitol aimed to give young people a voice in shaping climate policy.
Prisma High School senior Vivienne Hill, Kalani High School sophomore Isabella Leonardo and Punahou School sophomore Liv Knutsen joined HNN’s Sunrise to talk about being youth climate leaders and why young people should get involved.
Hill is interested in Regenerative Food Systems, Leonardo is part of the Sustainable Infrastructure Policy Working Group, and Knutsen works on the Climate Justice and Human Rights Policy Working Group.
The Forum kicked off at 8:30 a.m. and brings together youth ages 14-26, educators, policymakers, experts and community organizations to evaluate and discuss climate action priorities and steps to empower youth in the 2025 legislative session.
Following the forum, youth leaders will share their policy priorities at the Youth Climate Summit at the Capitol Rotunda from noon to 2:30 p.m. The free event includes lunch, live music, networking with nonprofits and government agencies and a prize giveaway.
